Description
The Career Events Planning and Publicity Assistant (Grad Hourly) has specific responsibility for coordinating and planning various career-related events for The Career Center, such as career fairs, informational sessions and guest speakers. In addition the Career Events Planning and Publicity Assistant (Grad Hourly) coordinates the publicity for career events. The graduate hourly will regularly staff a drop-in advising service that provides information on resumes, career exploration, and employment search strategies and assists visitors in the Career Resource Center. (Approximately 4-6 hours per week)
General Duties:
- Provide assistance to visitors in The Career Resource Center
- Assist students by providing one-on-one resume and cover letter critiques
- Assist students with career exploration and employment search strategies
Specific Duties
- Provide coordination and planning for the Graduate and Professional School Fair
- Serve as primary contact and event planner for various career-related events sponsored by The Career Center
- Develop Career Center publicity efforts in coordination with the Assistant Director for Marketing
- Assess event quality and provide recommendations for future modifications
- Assist in tabulating workshop and event attendance and participant evaluations
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Directors
Qualifications
Experience organizing, developing and/or coordinating events. Well developed interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to manage and plan multiple events and tasks simultaneously. Proficient or working knowledge of MS Excel and PowerPoint. Previous experience with publicity, advertising and creative development preferred.
Compensation
This position is paid hourly, commensurate with educational background and experience.

Qualifications
Experience developing and/or presenting programs or workshops. Experience providing peer leadership and coordinating programs. Well developed interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to use Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of, or experience with, career planning theories, resources and activities is preferred. Ability to use SPSS would be a benefit.

Peace Corps Campus Representative
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
The Peace Corps Campus Representative serves as a recruitment representative under the general supervision of the Director of The Career Center (TCC), the designated department administering the Peace Corps contract. The position operates under the jurisdiction of the Chicago Area Regional Recruitment Office (CRO) and receives guidance and direction from an assigned recruiter in the CRO. The purpose of the position is to recruit qualified applicants, interview and screen those candidates for volunteer service in the Peace Corps and build awareness of all Peace Corps programs.

Application Procedure
Evaluation of applications will begin immediately and continue until a qualified candidate is selected. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and resume. For full consideration, materials should be received by Friday, March 28, 2008.
