Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

Position Description

CNA’s are responsible for making sure patients are comfortable. Some of the tasks they perform include assisting patients in taking medications, monitoring and recording symptoms, measuring blood pressure, and helping patients to bath, change, and eat. CNA’s work in hospitals, nursing homes, and long term care facilities.

Education and Training

Nursing Assistant programs typically take two to five weeks to complete and are offered at community colleges, hospitals, vocational centers, health agencies. Coursework generally includes medical terminology, basic anatomy, body mechanics, nutrition, personal care, nursing skills, and infection control. To become a Certified Nurse Assistant in the State of Illinois, one must pass a written competency exam. A criminal background check is also required prior to certification.
