Position Description
Phlebotomists are trained to draw blood from patients. They also check vital signs, keep accurate records, and communicate direction with patients.
Education and Training
Phlebotomy programs are offered at community colleges, other types of educational training institutions, and hospitals. A phlebotomy program generally will take about one semester to complete. Taking and passing the Certification Exam is not required, but will likely increase employability. The certification exam is offered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Wages
Phlebotomists earn between $7-10/ hour (from the American Medical Technologists).
