I-Link FAQ’s for Students

What is I-Link?

I-Link is the Career Management System housed at The Career Center. Using I-Link, students can search for job and internship opportunities, as well as sign-up for interviews and view a full calendar of career programs and events.

The Career Center is part of a Multi-School Environment (MSE), which includes Engineering Career Services, Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) Career Services, School of Chemical Sciences Career Counseling and Placement Services, Labor and Employment Relations (LER) Career Services, Biotechnology Career Services and the University of Illinois Alumni Career Center. Students may view jobs posted for any of the above Career Services offices, although they may only be qualified for positions within their own field.

How do I register with The Career Center's I-Link system?

  • Click I-Link anywhere on The Career Center's Website
  • Select the “for students/alumni” link
  • Click the “Register" button
  • Complete your online profile (All fields with an asterisk are required)
  • After completion of your profile, you will receive a confirmation email; click on the enclosed link to submit your account for review/approval by The Career Center
  • A password will be emailed to you once your account has been approved by The Career Center.

How do I sign into the I-Link system?

  • Click I-Link anywhere on The Career Center's website
  • Select the “for students/alumni” link
  • Enter your e-mail address as your username and type (do not copy/paste) your current password

What should I do if I forget my password or my password does not work?

  • Click I-Link anywhere on The Career Center's Website
  • Select the “for students/alumni” link
  • Click the “Forgot Password” button
  • Enter your e-mail address; the system will email you your password
  • If you continue to have difficulties signing on, please contact the The Career Center at (217) 244-1495

My Profile

How do I update and/or make changes to my profile on I-Link?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Select the “profile” along the top of the page
  • Make the desired changes.
  • Be sure to click the “Save Changes” button when complete.

*Please note that once you are registered, you are not able to change your major, GPA, graduation date, or work authorization. My Resume and Documents

How do I upload a resume or other documents?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Select the "My Resumes and Documents" tab at the top of the page
  • Click the "Add New" button
  • Label your document professionally (Use caution, potential employers will see these labels!)
  • Select the appropriate "Document Type"
  • Click "Browse" to search your computer and select the file to be uploaded
  • Click the "Submit" button
  • Your document will automatically be converted to a PDF, double-click the PDF logo in the "View" column to make sure your formatting was converted correctly

How do I use the Resume Book feature?

  • Employers have two ways of receiving your resume through I-Link:
    • Employers receive a copy of your resume when you submit to an opportunity on the job board
    • Employers have the ability to request a collection of resumes that meet their specific criteria; this collection of resumes is called a Resume Book
  • In order for your resume to be included in Resume Books, you must either choose this option when you register or:
    • Sign into I-Link
    • Select the "My Profile" tab
    • Select the "Email and Resume Book Preferences"
    • Select the radio button "Yes" where it says "Include in Resume Books"

Job and Internship Search

How can I search jobs?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Select the "Jobs and Internship Search" tab
  • Select the database of interest:
    • Illini NACElink Network Jobs - Opportunities for internships and full-time jobs posted directly to I-Link or one of of our Illini NACElink Network partner offices. These postings are specifically targeting University of Illinois students and alumni.
    • NACElink Extended Job Search - Utilizes 'Job Central' to pull full-time and internship opportunities from external company websites. Also automatically provides search results from Indeed.com, SimplyHired.com, and Google.
    • Federal Government Career Opportunities - Resources for individuals interested in careers in public service.
    • Part-Time jobs On-Campus and in CU Community - The Office of Student Financial Aid's Virtual Job Board where various on and off-campus part-time jobs are posted.
    • Idealist.org - A service of the non-profit organization 'Action Without Boarders' that provides various resources and tools for finding internships, full-time jobs, and volunteer opportunities with organizations around the world.

How do I submit my resume to a posting on I-Link?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Select the "Jobs and Internship Search" tab
  • Select the "Illini NACElink Network Jobs" database
  • Select the position you are interested in applying for
  • Under "Application Status" to the right, select the document(s) from the dropdown that you wish to submit and click the "Submit" button
*Some opportunities will require you to apply outside of I-Link; if this is the case, it will be clearly stated in the "How to Apply" section. Be sure you complete all steps.

How can I see which jobs I have applied for?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Select the "Jobs and Internship Search" tab
  • Select the "Applications" tab

What if I don’t qualify for a job that I’m interested in?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Review your profile to make sure your information is up to date
  • In the job description of interest, review the position's qualifications
  • If after reviewing the position's qualifications you still have questions please contact The Career Center at (217) 244-1495 or TCC-ILINK@ad.uiuc.edu
*Remember that you must be honest in the completion of your profile. If The Career Center finds that you have misrepresented yourself in your I-Link profile, you may be removed from the I-Link system and/or your access to I-Link may be suspended for up to one year.

What do I do if I want to withdraw an application to an I-Link posting?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Select the "Jobs and Internship Search" tab
  • Select the "Illini NACElink Network Jobs" database
  • Click on the "Applications" tab
  • Click the "Withdraw Application" button for the appropriate opportunity

What is a “Pre-Select” posting on the I-Link Job Board?

  • Pre-Select opportunities are positions that an employer plans to interview on campus for
  • To demonstrate interest in an interview for a pre-select opportunity, submit your resume and other required documentation through the posting
  • Employers review submissions and 'Pre-Select' those students who will be invited to interview

How will I know if I am invited to interview for a pre-select opportunity?

  • If you are invited to interview for a pre-select opportunity, you will receive an e-mail message indicating
  • Log-in to I-Link as soon as possible to sign up for an interview slot (these awarded on a first come basis), pay close attention to the interview sign-up deadline and be sure to record the interview date, time and location.

What is a search agent?

  • A search agent is a periodic automated search of the Illini NACElink Network for job and internship postings that meet your specific criteria
  • Results of a search agent can be sent to you via email on a routine basis.

How do I set-up a search agent?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Select the "Job and Internship Search" tab
  • Select the "Advanced Search/Create a Search Agent"
  • Name your search and select the radio button for "Save As"
  • Define your search parameters and click the "Submit" button
  • Select the "My Search Agents" tab
  • In the "Enabled" field, select the radio button for "Yes"
  • Make the desired frequency and results selections and click the "Submit" button

My Interviews

How can I see the status of my interviews?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Select the "My Interviews" tab
  • To see the status of pending interviews, click on the "Interview Requests" tab
  • To view your upcoming scheduled interviews click on the "Scheduled Interviews" tab

Events & Calendar

Where can I find information on upcoming recruiting activities and events?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Select the "Events" tab
  • Select the appropriate tab:
    • Career Fairs - Upcoming career fairs
    • Information Sessions - Company information sessions
    • Workshops - Professional development workshops and/or networking opportunities
  • You may also view upcoming events by selecting the "Calendar" tab

How do I sign up for an event?

  • Sign into I-Link
  • Select the "Events" tab
  • Select the appropriate tab (Career Fairs, Information Sessions or Workshops)
  • Select the event that you are interested in attending
  • Click on the "RSVP" button to be added to the list of attendees and receive email updates
