A potential employer will be looking for more than just good grades. The strongest candidates for any position will be those with work experiences, including volunteer work, full or part-time employment, internships, or any of the other programs listed on this page.
- The Career Center Outreach Team
- The Career Outreach Team consists of students trained to facilitate the development of your professional skills. New members are hired and trained annually.
- Job Shadowing
- The Illini Externship Program selects a group of students every year and matches them with alumni working in different professions. This program gives students a chance follow professionals around the work place, and to test the water before jumping into a profession or a graduate program.

- The Leadership Certificate is a structured program designed to provide students with experience and growth in leadership.
- NEW Leadership Illinois
- NEW Leadership is a non-partisan, week-long residential program for college women designed to increase women's representation in all elements of public life, including elected office.

- These six programs are located in the University residence halls and are designed to give students the chance to become part of a unique experience, with programs and facilities to support the interests of the community members.

- Beckwith Residence Hall is a University residence hall, which specializes in accommodating the residential needs of students with severe physical disabilities who require assistance in the performance of basic activities of daily living.

- Persons Assuming Control of their own Environments (PACE) is a local nonprofit which advocates for the disabled and supports their efforts to live independently and stay out of nursing homes or other heavily monitored environments.
